Hip Hop as a Political Tool

Hip hop was birthed in Black American and Latino communities, which often were the spaces of the underprivileged. Young listeners faced a plethora of social issues and yet had this new blooming culture that better expressed their experiences than most of the musical genres that came before. Due to this fact, hip-hop became largely used as a political tool in the hands of artists who had grown up facing the different social, economic and racial hardships in American society.
